چکیده
We present an analysis of high quality spectra of members of the young cluster M35. By using a multi-fiber spectrograph, we are able to collect high signal–to–noise, high resolution spectra of a sample of photometric candidate members. Accurate radial velocities are used to establish the membership status and rotational velocities are measured using cross-correlation. We also derive the metal content of the cluster, [Fe/H]M35=–0.21±0.10, based on spectral synthesis. Finally, we derive the lithium abundances of the bona fide cluster members and compare the results with members of other clusters. For example, M35 shows a smaller range in both rotation rates and lithium abundances as compared to the Pleiades. We discuss possible roles of various parameters. Our high quality M35 database of lithium abundances and rotational velocities are perfectly suited to be used as a laboratory to test theoretical models dealing with the lithium depletion phenomenon. We discuss the role of stellar inhomogeneities and rotation on the lithium depletion phenomenon. Subject headings: stars: abundances – stars: late-type – open clusters and associations: M35, NGC 2168

WIYN Open Cluster Study: Lithium in Cool Dwarfs of the M35 Open Cluster
We have obtained high resolution spectra of ∼40 members of M35, determined the Lithium-Teff morphology and the distribution of the rotational velocity for G and K stars, and compared them to those of the Pleiades and other well-known open clusters. 1. The cluster background M35 (NGC 2168) is a very interesting open cluster for several reasons. It is relatively nearby, with (m-M)0=9.7 (Vidal 197...

In previous programs, we have identified a large number of possible very low mass members of the young, open cluster IC 2391 based on their location in an I versus (R−I)c color-magnitude diagram. We have now obtained new photometry and intermediate resolution (∆λ = 2.7 Å ) spectra of 19 of these objects (14.9 ≤ Ic ≤ 17.5) in order to confirm cluster membership. We identify 15 of our targets as ...

We report the determination of high-accuracy radial velocities for 299 members of the globular cluster M92 using the Hydra multi-object spectrograph on the WIYN telescope. We have concentrated on stars outside of the central region of the cluster, located up to 14. ′ 4 from the cluster center. Candidate members were selected for spectroscopy based on a photometric metallicity index determined f...
متن کاملWIYN/Hydra Detection of Lithium Depletion in F Stars of the Young Open Cluster M35 and Implications for the Development of the Lithium Gap
We report discovery of significant depletion of Li on the surfaces of F dwarf stars in the 150-Myr-old open cluster M35, analagous to a feature in the 700-Myrold Hyades cluster that has been referred to as the “Li gap.” We have caught the gap in the act of forming: using high resolution, high S/N, WIYN/Hydra observations, we detect Li in all but a few M35 F stars; the maximum depletion lies at ...

We have employed precise and carefully calibrated V-and I-band photometry of NGC 188 at WIYN to explore the cluster luminosity function and study the cluster white dwarfs. Our photometry is offset by V = 0.052 (fainter) from Sandage (1962) and Eggen & Sandage (1969). All published photometry for the past three decades have been based on these two calibrations, which are in error by 0.05 ± 0.01....
